Developments “expected” in Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia saga amidst Liverpool interest
Liverpool are interested in Southampton star Romeo Lavia and developments are “expected” in the race for the midfielder’s signature in the ongoing transfer window.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old this summer. However, Premier League rivals Chelsea are also in pursuit of acquiring the Belgium international’s services in the coming weeks.
Journalist Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail has given an update regarding the situation around Lavia. The Anfield side, along with the Blues, have been in contact for the midfielder. An update on the saga is expected soon.
“Chelsea and Liverpool have held discussions over Romeo Lavia with developments expected in the race to sign the Belgian midfielder in the coming days.”
In the summer of 2022. Southampton signed the Belgian from Manchester City. The 19-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at the Sky Blues but was unable to break into their first-team setup.
Subsequently, at the Saints, Lavia has established himself as a regular. The youngster was a key player for the St Mary’s Stadium side in the 2022/23 term. However, they ended up getting relegated from the English top flight.
But the Belgian was able to build a reputation for himself despite Southampton’s struggles. The midfielder caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays. Last season, the 19-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Saints, scoring a goal and providing one assist.
At Liverpool, the engine room is expected to see a massive rebuild. Jordan Henderson looks set to leave the Reds this summer and reunite with Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq. Fabinho is also on the verge of leaving the club.
While we have added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to our ranks, the Merseyside outfit have also lost the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain. The Anfield side will be left with Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott in the middle of the park as the other options as things stand.
