Dominik Szoboszlai misses Liverpool training session in Germany due to ankle injury
Dominik Szoboszlai wasn’t pictured in Liverpool’s training session in Germany on Saturday (July 22) after seemingly rolling his ankle.
As per Liverpool Echo, he is likely to be sidelined for a few days to not risk his injury from becoming anything serious. That automatically makes him a huge doubt for our friendly game against Greuther Furth on Monday (July 24).
Liverpool go to Singapore next to play friendlies against Leicester City and Bayern Munich. The pre-season will be concluded with a game against another German side SV Darmstadt at Preston’s Deepdale Stadium.
Szoboszlai was signed for a fee of £60million fee this summer from RB Leipzig. He is seen as a starting midfielder under Jurgen Klopp after the exits of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.
Why worry?
It is common for players to suffer minor knocks here and there. And given it is pre-season, the club will always play it safe and take absolutely 0 risks with one of their star players.
As journalist Bence Bocsak points out, the Hungary international has missed a grand total of one game in the last two years. It is expected that Liverpool fans will automatically worry when a new player is injured given our history with injuries, especially with our previous No. 8.
Big season ahead for Dom.
But there doesn’t seem to be anything troublesome here. Szoboszlai should be fit for at least a couple of the pre-season games (hopefully) and play a role in our Premier League opener against Chelsea next month.
