Ibrahima Konate is not interested in leaving Liverpool despite Al-Ittihad links

As per French outlet Get French Football News, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is in no mood to leave the club despite interest from Saudi club Al-Ittihad.

They are not going away, are they? After getting Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, the Saudi League clubs are back in for more Liverpool players. This time it is Konate.

Al-Ittihad has been a household name in the past few days because of their insistence to make the Mohamed Salah move happen. Paul Joyce has reported that even an offer of £120m would be of no problem to Liverpool to reject this summer.

In the last 48 hours, we saw them shortlisting Joe Gomez as a defensive signing in this transfer window. It would be mad if the Englishman leaves 12 months after signing a new contract with the club.

It is good to see that the Konate link did not get much legs. The Frenchman, who is currently nursing a minor knock, is still a young defender with a lot to play and win for. Going to Saudi now basically ends his path of winning the biggest prizes in football.

But, we know that the 23-year-old is injury-prone. He plays in such a difficult position in this new hybrid system where right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold moves into midfield when the team has possession.

It would be great if Liverpool sign a defender before the Friday night deadline to support Konate and not put undue pressure on ageing Joel Matip to play a lot of games this season.

Is doing that possible so late in the window? Anything is possible. Let’s be sure that the club must have a list of players they can sign in that position.
