Agent of Piero Hincapie offers an exciting Liverpool transfer update
Liverpool FC’s interest in defender Piero Hincapie during the summer transfer window has been confirmed by his agent, Manuel Sierra. Sierra, who also represents Moises Caicedo, revealed that discussions are underway for a potential move in January, but it won’t come cheap.
Sierra emphasised that Hincapie’s price tag will be substantial, setting a minimum valuation of £43m. This figure is a reflection of his importance in Xabi Alonso’s side as he has been a pivot in the Bundesliga side’s backline. Here is what he told Fútbol Sin Casette via ECHO:
“Liverpool were interested in him, but at that time they chose to invest in the midfield,”
“For January they are talking like other clubs, it will not be less than 50 million.”
While Liverpool expressed interest in Hincapie during the summer, they ultimately decided to prioritize investments in the midfield. However, the pursuit of Hincapie appears to have reignited ahead of the January transfer window.
The potential move for Hincapie remains fueled by the uncertain future of Joel Matip. Matip’s contract with Liverpool expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt), and there are questions about whether he will remain with the club beyond that point.
Speaking of Hincapie, the player has shown tremendous amounts of potential at the Bundesliga side and could prove to be a strong defensive addition to almost any side in the world.
The Reds’ defence, following the midfield overhaul over the summer window, now becomes the focal point going forward. We have top-quality players in the backline, but having additional depth and that with young players with a high ceiling is only going to take the club higher.
The price tag might appear overambitious to some, but understanding our situation with defenders, especially the age factor coupled with injury frequencies, we would know that reinforcements are almost necessary.
