Jarrod Bowen signs new West Ham contract, ending Liverpool links
West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen has signed a new long-term contract, ending speculation linking him with Liverpool, as per a tweet from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The deal’s completion comes after Bowen’s standout start to the season, including earning an England recall. In his 7 league matches, the 26-year-old has scored five goals and provided one assist to go along with it.
Liverpool had been heavily linked to Bowen as a potential replacement for the ageing Mohamed Salah. The winger’s style of cutting in from the right mirrors Salah’s role in Jurgen Klopp’s system.
But Bowen committing his future to West Ham definitively rules out a switch to Anfield for the foreseeable future.
The 26-year-old has starred in the Premier League over the past few seasons with his goalscoring and creativity. After taking another step forward for club and country, West Ham moved to protect a key asset.
Newcastle United were also said to be admirers of Bowen and monitoring his contract situation. However, talks of an exit are now moot with Bowen’s new deal.
For Liverpool, missing out on the promising England international is a blow to any contingency plans if Salah departs. Replicating the Egyptian’s immense production was already a tall task.
But Bowen’s contract extension leaves Liverpool still searching for long-term solutions upfront with Salah’s contract expiring in 2025. Meanwhile, West Ham retain a prized asset to fuel their push for Europe.
