Liverpool legend John Aldridge makes Erik ten Hag and Jurgen Klopp claim
Famously claiming that all eras come to an end referring to the dominance of Manchester City thanks to Pep Guardiola and the Liverpool of Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag came across as someone who is the right person to turn the fortunes around for our rivals. However, 18 months into the job, Ten Hag seems totally out of place at the moment, as the Red Devils are struggling in the league.
With five wins and five losses from 10 games, United find themselves in the eighth spot on the table and very very far away from both, City and Liverpool. No Liverpool fan will spare a few thoughts for United. In fact, if anything, seeing them struggle to stitch four passes together is peak entertainment for us Merseysiders.
Coming off a 3-0 loss to Man City at home, Erik ten Hag has a lot of work to do. Former Liverpool star John Aldridge spoke about the Dutchman and made a statement comparing him to Jurgen Klopp and how the German has completely transformed the Reds and the former Ajax manager could take a leaf out of Klopp’s book.
Writing in his exclusive column for ECHO, here is what Aldridge had to say about Klopp while also shedding light on Erik ten Hag’s reality at United:
“Jurgen Klopp has shown him how to manage. Klopp has transformed Liverpool when we looked down and out last season and people were saying his time was up and a fresh face was needed. Ten Hag has not come close to rebuilding United, they’ve actually gone backwards again. At one point we were thinking Ten Hag was going to be the man to turn it around, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case. I hope he stays there for a long time.”
At one point in time last season, Liverpool actually looked like they would struggle to make it to a European spot, but credit where due, Klopp transformed the Reds towards the end of the last term, and that momentum is carrying on this season as well. We are off to a fantastic start across all competitions and have lost just one game.
Problems plenty for ETH?
The new signings over the summer transfer window have been amazing for the Reds while most of United’s signings have been the reason for their poor form. There is a lot of introspection for Erik ten Hag to do as Aldridge rightly pointed out.
The former Ajax manager faces a formidable task in the coming months, and his tenure at Manchester United is far from the transformational journey that some had predicted. Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s remarkable ability to inspire and rejuvenate his squad stands as a testament to his managerial prowess.
