Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara suffers a fresh injury setback after playing for just 12 minutes in 10 months
Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara suffered a fresh injury in the 12-minute cameo against Arsenal during the 3-1 Premier League loss. Thiago returned to action after a 10-month lay-off due to a hip injury that required surgery.
The 32-year-old has only five months left in his current contract, with a likelihood of leaving as a free agent. Although Thiago commands respect from his peers and fans, injuries have plagued his time at the club.
The Spaniard’s talents are beyond any criticism, but his body has failed him time after time. Liverpool revamped the midfield during last summer’s transfer window, and they have not missed the 32-year-old’s absence.
Nevertheless, the Kopites would have loved to watch Thiago play before his impending departure in the summer. Thiago joined Liverpool from German giants Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020 after their Champions League success.
The 32-year-old has made 98 appearances for the Reds, contributing with three goals and six assists. Thiago played a crucial role during Liverpool’s quadruple chase in the 2021-22 season, playing alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
The Reds won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup that season but failed to win the Premier League by a point. They also lost the Champions League final against Real Madrid despite dominating the game, failing to score.
