Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson tells his teammates to channel their emotions wisely amid the impending exit of Jurgen Klopp
Andy Robertson demanded professionalism from his teammates amid the emotions surrounding Liverpool over the impending exit of Jurgen Klopp. In January, Klopp announced that he was stepping back from the managerial role after the end of the season.
Liverpool fans and people affiliated with the club are still coming to terms with this decision from their beloved manager. The 56-year-old explained that he was feeling burnt out and decided to safeguard his mental and physical well-being.
The Kopites have accepted and acknowledged Klopp’s decision but the emotions have been running high since then. Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table and they have progressed in every cup competition.
However, their season is under severe scrutiny due to the injury crisis with numerous important players sidelined. Klopp has used players from the Academy to compensate for the losses throughout this season.
Youngsters like Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley have repaid the faith shown by their manager with consistent performances. The escalating injury crisis and emotions surrounding Klopp’s exit should not let Liverpool scupper all the hard work they have put in this season.
Robertson told the Telegraph that Liverpool players have the responsibility to stay professional amid the emotions gripping the club. He said:
“We have to use it in two ways. We have to park it to one side to a certain extent, while the fans can be emotional. But also, we want to give him a send-off. We know that the manager who has taken this club back to where it belongs is leaving in the summer — and we would like him to go with a big send-off. That gives us extra motivation. But we can’t get caught up in the emotion of it all. We’ve done that really well since the announcement. We have all got our heads around it.”
