Liverpool are ready to battle Newcastle United for the signature of Juventus forward Federico Chiesa during the upcoming summer
Newcastle United and Liverpool both target Juventus forward Federico Chiesa for the upcoming summer transfer window. Chiesa is one of the candidates to replace Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah if he opts to depart in the summer.
Salah has continued his prolific career with the Reds despite the change in tactical approach within his game. To benefit the team and adjust according to his age, the Egypt captain has played very differently this season.
The 31-year-old has relied on the link-up play with his teammates, creativity and his technical qualities this season. Instead of dribbling and using pace to beat defenders, he has stayed wide in possessional phases to stretch the play.
Salah has consistently dropped narrower only in the last attacking phases while shuffling positions with his attacking teammates. The Egypt captain has 19 goals and 10 assists in all competitions from 28 appearances this season.
Despite his importance at the club, the perennial link with Saudi Arabia since last summer persists. Given the age of the Egyptian, Liverpool would want to have a replacement ready regardless of the transfer rumours.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has opted to depart from the managerial role at the end of the current season. His impending exit has only increased the transfer rumours about long-serving players like Salah who achieved plenty of success.
Fichajes reported Liverpool’s interest in signing Chiesa during the summer transfer window as a replacement for Salah. Newcastle is also keen on signing the Italy international to strengthen their squad and compete at the top level.
Chiesa can play at any position behind the lead forward, operating on both wings comfortably. The 26-year-old has also led the line for his team when required, showcasing incredible versatility, parallel to Liverpool attackers’ profile.
