Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford praises the technical abilities of Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold while picking him over Bernardo Silva
Patrick Bamford lauded the technical prowess of Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and picked him over Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva. Bamford chose Trent to play in every position on the pitch alongside himself up front while answering the question.
Since the start of the year, a torn lateral knee ligament injury has sidelined Trent, causing him to miss numerous matches. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp appointed the 25-year-old as the new team vice-captain to replace outgoing James Milner during the summer.
The England international has played a pivotal role for the Reds during the first half of the season. He has continued to play as the inverted right-back and enjoyed the opportunity to play as a number six too.
Trent’s performance in the central midfield has been so splendid that many fans and pundits want him to shift permanently. He has dominated possession and dictated the tempo while creating the attacking phases like a quarterback, balancing maturity with quality.
The 25-year-old has made 29 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, contributing with two goals and 10 assists. Through the central, Trent has enjoyed the variety of passes he can deliver at all angles and exploit spaces.
Speaking on the My Mate’s A Footballer podcast, Bamford answered the quiz while elaborating on Trent’s technical prowess. He said:
“It was between Bernardo [Silva] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. He [Trent] can do a bit of everything. I think centre-back would be a bit of a struggle but everywhere else. His technical ability and the way he strikes a ball, there’s no-one better. He can kick it so far as well; that’s mental.”
While many technically gifted players exist in the Premier League like Bernardo and Kevin De Bruyne, Trent remains a firm favourite for many fans and experts. Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table, behind Arsenal in just the goal difference.
