In numbers: Stats reflect Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister’s incredible performance in Brighton win

The Liverpool midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister, put in a superb performance at Anfield against Brighton, and it was his pass in the second half that led to the Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah netting the winner.

Even more impressively, Salah got seven passes from Mac Allister in the Brighton penalty area. By passing the ball to Conor Bradley and Harvey Elliott in the penalty area, Mac Allister became only the fourth Red to make nine passes into the box in a league game in the last seven years.

To complete at least nine open-play passes into the box is a rare achievement; another player who comes to mind when looking at such an achievement is Kevin De Bryune. The only player to have recorded these numbers in a Premier League game is Manchester City maestro De Bruyne, against Tottenham in 2019 and Norwich in 2020.

It is safe to say that the 25-year-old was outstanding on the pitch. He created so many chances with smart through-balls and dictated the tempo of Liverpool’s attacks. He booked early but that didn’t stop him from doing his defensive work, too.

In the post-match interview, Mac Allister spoke to Sky Sports:

“We didn’t start as we wanted but it was an amazing game, we played against an unbelievable team. I know them very well, I know what they can do. It was a tough match but at the end we won it, so we are very happy.”

“The mentality of the boys is amazing, that’s what you need when you are 1-0 down. Today we showed it again. But, as I said, next time we have to try to start winning and not losing.”

Mac Allister was named player of the match for his display against his former club, which will come as no surprise to anyone, with Klopp saying after the game:

“I saw a lot of special performances today. Yes, Macca was incredible – absolutely incredible – but when you have that kind of talent when you have that kind of character, then you should show it.”

phenomenal performance by Allister

It’s this kind of talent that Liverpool has with players like Mac Allister, who leads Liverpool to such great heights. The star midfielder is constantly spraying passes to Salah and making chances, one of which is the winner for the Reds.

More Liverpool news

With the Liverpool player putting up such impressive numbers in these conditions and at his age, the prospect of the next few seasons is exciting. If he can deliver De Bruyne’s stats this early in his career with the Reds, the club’s next manager will have a valuable asset in his hands. Allowing him to move forward has been quite beneficial.

With the boss, Jurgen Klopp, counting his last days at Anfield, the squad has all the motivation to depart their legendary boss in style and they want to win it all. Although their dream of a quadruple is no more, the Reds are still hoping to win themselves a treble this season with positive chances in the Premier League and Europa League.
