Liverpool targets the star player of Leeds amid their Premier League embarrassment
After missing out on promotion back to the Premier League, Leeds will have to battle to keep hold of top player Crysencio Summerville for another season amid interest from huge clubs, including Liverpool.
The winger for Leeds United was unhappy with Southampton’s 1-0 victory at Wembley Stadium in the Championship playoff final last weekend, which saw Southampton advance to the Premier League. So Leeds may need to cash in on their star man after an impressive season in their promotion push.
Although the Reds had an abundance of talent in the forward positions, the team struggled with injuries throughout the 2023–2024 season. Now, uncertainties over the future of players including Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz force Liverpool to bring in quality forward assistance.
Summerville, a Leeds key player who scored 21 goals and contributed 10 assists during the Whites’ promotion drive, is one possible addition that the Reds are considering. The 22-year-old is excelling at Leeds after moving up through the ranks at Feyenoord.
Although the Dutch international has a history with Feyenoord, he never had any contact with Arne Slot, who is the new head coach of Liverpool. Summerville left Feyenoord to join Leeds in 2020, which is before Slot joined Feyenoord in 2021.
Summerville also showed his admiration for Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt in the past, which may be a hint regarding the star attacker’s fondness for playing for the club.
Leeds United will have to raise close to £100 million in player sales as they failed to win promotion to the Premier League with Crysencio Summerville. According to the Daily Mail, Summerville could demand a £30 million fee to part ways with Leeds.
