Minteh excelled with Feyenoord on loan last season but Liverpool are unlikely to sign him as Salah’s backup

Reports suggest that Liverpool manager Arne Slot is considering bringing back one of his former Feyenoord players, Newcastle United loanee Yankuba Minteh. However, these reports also indicate that a deal is far from being finalized and is deemed ‘unlikely’ to occur this summer.

Slot is well aware of the need to make an immediate impact as he steps into the shoes of Jurgen Klopp, who is regarded as a modern-day legend at Liverpool for his transformative impact on the club. Despite this, Slot has the opportunity to shape his own legacy at Liverpool with the support of new signings and a motivated squad. While there may be potential for new arrivals in the upcoming weeks, Yankubah Minteh is unlikely to be among them.

According to The Athletic, there have been rumors linking Minteh to Liverpool. However, despite speculation indicating that Liverpool is seeking a backup for Mohamed Salah, the club is currently not pursuing the youngster.

Minteh spent last season on loan at Feyenoord under Slot’s management, where he made significant contributions with 17 goals in 37 games. This established a connection between the two. Although Liverpool is exploring options to bolster their wide midfield positions, it appears that there won’t be a reunion between Slot and Minteh at Anfield in the near future.

Minteh could potentially be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s squad, given his remarkable speed. However, considering Liverpool’s anticipated participation in the Champions League next season, Minteh might lack the necessary experience and consistency to serve as a reliable backup for Salah during critical stages of the campaign, especially if Liverpool is contending on multiple fronts.

While Minteh thrived under Slot’s management, it’s essential to weigh his accomplishments against the backdrop of other potential signings. Players like Federico Chiesa and Johan Bakayoko are also being linked to Liverpool, and their established track records suggest they could make a more immediate impact at Anfield. Furthermore, considering that Bakayoko is only three years older than Minteh, there’s ample time for the Belgian to continue maturing and evolving as a player.
