There has been a lot of speculation over the future of Liverpool defender Sepp Van den Berg throughout the summer transfer window.
The Dutchman has been the subject of interest from several Bundesliga clubs, including TSG Hoffenheim and VfB Stuttgart, at different phases of the transfer window. Some teams have made concrete offers to sign the centre-back but they were all rejected by Liverpool, especially from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds are insisting Sepp Van den Berg will not leave for less than £20 at this stage as they were happy with his performances in the pre-season friendlies under new head coach Arne Slot—despite the player’s intentions to move on.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Sepp Van de Berg could still leave Anfield this summer despite Liverpool turning down an opening €10million bid, plus add-ons from PSV Eindhoven. There are chances of movement concerning the defender in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
“Liverpool have already rejected a bid from PSV Eindhoven for €10million, plus add-ons. I think there could be movement around Van den Berg, so let’s see what Liverpool will decide in that case,” Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT.
There has been little in terms of both incomings and outgoings at Anfield this summer, leaving Liverpool extremely frustrated. This is not the start new gaffer Arne Slot would have wanted after arriving in the red half of Merseyside as he tries to succeed the legendary Jurgen Klopp. However, with Brentford agreeing to a deal for Fabio Carvalho on Saturday, we may see some movements in terms of outgoings over the coming weeks.
Van den Berg appears to be the player to exit the club, having expressed his desire to move on if he continues to play a fringe role. The 22-year-old impressed on loan at Mainz last season and his performances have gone unnoticed, as evidenced by interest from aforementioned German clubs and Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
However, with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez ahead of him in the pecking order, it is understandable why the Netherlands youth international wants to end his time at Anfield. Slot has been impressed with his performances in pre-season but that doesn’t guarantee the defender will get regular minutes in the upcoming season, owing to the presence of experienced players in his position in the club’s roster.

The decision on Van den Berg’s future has yet to be decided, with Liverpool weighing their options as the new season approaches. However, if we are to believe Romano, it looks like our club will be forced to accept a reduced fee than the original valuation for the talented Zwolle-born star.
