Sporting boss Ruben Amorim reveals Viktor Gyokeres price amid Liverpool links
Sporting Lisbon’s manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear that any club looking to sign Viktor Gyokeres will need to meet the big fat release clause in his contract. This announcement comes amidst growing interest from several top clubs, including Liverpool, in the prolific Swedish striker who joined Sporting from Coventry City last summer.
That release clause is worth €100m. Here is what Amorim told CNN Portugal on clubs showing interest in securing the service of Gyokeres.
“Gyokeres is a great player and I think he’s worth 100 million euros. That’s the price he has and we have to go ahead with it. Whoever wants to (sign him) will have to pay 100 million euros.”
Gyokeres has been in scintillating form, scoring 50 goals and providing 18 assists in 55 appearances across all competitions since his arrival. Such an impressive tally has inevitably drawn attention from across Europe. However, despite Liverpool’s interest, it seems unlikely that the club will be willing to shell out the substantial sum required to secure his services.
Gyokeres to the Reds?
Liverpool recently invested in Federico Chiesa, adding to their already formidable attacking options. With this acquisition, it’s improbable that the club will allocate additional funds for another high-profile forward. Liverpool’s strategy in the transfer market has typically been one of calculated investments rather than extravagant spending.
Furthermore, the Reds are well-equipped in the forward department. Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo have all shown their capability in the central striker role. Jota’s versatility and knack for crucial goals, Nunez’s physical presence and scoring ability, and Gakpo’s speed and technical prowess provide Liverpool with a rich variety of attacking options.
Adding to this depth, Liverpool have promising young talents like Lewis Koumas [out on loan at Stoke City] and Jayden Danns, who is pushing for first-team opportunities. The presence of such promising youth players reinforces the club’s strategy of nurturing homegrown talent and maintaining a balanced squad.

Given this context, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will spend £84m on another attacker. The club’s current roster, combined with their strategic signings and focus on youth development, suggests that they are well-prepared to navigate the season without needing to make such a significant investment in their forward line. While Viktor Gyokeres is undoubtedly a remarkable talent, Liverpool’s current squad depth indicates that they are unlikely to meet the high release clause set by Sporting CP.
