Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai delivered a captain’s performance for Hungary in the 2-0 Nations League victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina. The 23-year-old played as a left-attacking winger, scoring a 38th-minute fantastic left-foot shot and a 50th-minute penalty for his team.

The Hungary captain dominated the game with his work rate and relentless contribution to the overall play, leading by example. Szoboszlai has faced some criticism for his inconsistencies in performance with the Reds since the mid-point of the last season.

Liverpool signed Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig during the summer of 2023 as part of their midfield revamp under Jurgen Klopp. The Hungary captain made an immediate impact and surprised the fanbase with his combination of technique and hard work mentality.

However, nagging injuries during the season combined with irregular game time to rectify his fitness created a lot of inconsistencies. Under the new leadership of Arne Slot, Szoboszlai has maintained his role as the first-choice attacking midfielder for the Reds.

The Hungarian international has consistently played ahead of the double pivot of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch this season. Szoboszlai’s international performances combined with his late high performances for Liverpool are crucial for the club ahead of fixture congestion.

According to the SofaScore, the 23-year-old made four out of seven successful dribble attempts and enjoyed 83% passing accuracy. The Hungary captain provided two key passes while winning six out of 13 ground duels and one aerial duel.

Furthermore, Szoboszlai fulfilled his defensive duties by making two clearances, one interception and one tackle while blocking one shot. The 23-year-old’s all-round performance at the left side of the attack showcased his versatility and importance for the team.
