“Mike Edwards deserves a statue”: Some Liverpool fans react hilariously to reports linking flop with £27m move

According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have placed a £27million price tag on Divock Origi as our boss Jurgen Klopp looks to trim his squad ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign.

Liverpool are open to offers for the Belgian this summer, who struggled on loan at Wolfsburg this past season, not impressing in the pre-season friendlies either.

Spanish club Valencia are reportedly ready to pay Origi’s asking price of £27million and his departure could see us get some really good cash.

In fact, the Liverpool Echo claims there could be up to seven departures from now until the end of the transfer window next month, which could potentially generate up to £100million in sales.

Given the form Origi was in Bundesliga last term, it is interesting to see Valencia being ready to stump up £27million for the striker’s signature. Nevertheless, if the Spanish club agrees to pay the amount, it would be a fantastic deal done by our club, with special credit to our Sporting Director Mike Edwards.

Mike Edwards was promoted to the Sporting Director’s role at our club in November 2016 and he has played a brilliant role behind the scenes in getting our transfers done. He has avoided the limelight, although his recent success has seen many fans sing his praises.

Since the rumours broke out of Valencia willing to match our club’s valuation for Origi, here is how our fans reacted on Twitter, with some wanting for an Edwards’s statue outside Anfield.
