Liverpool have some rebuliding to do with their squad after they faced a disappointing defeat against Sevilla in the Europa League finals. Liverpool were not able to finish the season on a high note. Liverpool overall had a below par season, but the season is over and now it is the time for a break. Klopp will be looking to resurrect his team and fight for glory next season. Klopp clearly knows which all positions he has to reinforce during the transfer window. And it is clear that he is looking for a central midfielder and it is a must for Liverpool.

A number of central midfielders have been linked with Liverpool already and one of them is Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. Liverpool are on a lookout for a Central Midfielder and Højbjerg says he wants a Liverpool move. The circumstances are in favour of the move, but do Liverpool need him? Let’s analyze if Liverpool really need Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

The Danish Midfielder currently is owned by the German giants, Bayern Munich, but he was sent on loan to Schalke this season. The 22 year old moved to Bayern Munich II in 2012 and later moved to Bayern Munich’s senior squad in 2013. At Bayern, he has made a total of 25 appearances, but was not able to score any goals for them. In 2015, he moved to FC Augsburg on loan where he scored 2 goals from 16 appearances. And in 2016 he moved to Schalke on loan where he made 30 appearances, but was only able to get just one assist. Højbjerg made his international debut for Denmark on 28th May 2014. He scored his first international goal for Denmark against Armenia on 7th September 2014.

Højbjerg is a good dribbler of the ball. He also provides defensive services. Ball interception and ball blocking is two of his other strengths. This shows that he is quiet good defensively. The Danish youngster is rated at 6 Million Euros. Overall, Højbjerg is a talented player who has a great potential, but to boost his career he might be looking to permanently move away from Bayern.

Yes, Højbjerg is a talented player with his own strengths, but can he strengthen the current Liverpool Midfield?

Liverpool currently have Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Joe Allen, Lucas Leiva, Cameron Brannagan and Kevin Stewart in their squad. A few of them might leave Liverpool this summer but still he will only remain as Liverpool’s fourth best mdifielder, if he is to join the Reds.

Liverpool’s Midfield was below par at times this season, but it’s hard to see Højbjerg solving any of Liverpool’s Midfield problems. Maybe, in the future, he might become a top midfielder, but Liverpool really needs a Midfielder who can strengthen their Midfield. Considering Liverpool’s Midfield problems they should be looking at a Midfielder who would walk into their starting eleven or someone who atleast can compete against Jordan Henderson and James Milner. And Højbjerg is definitely not the man for that.

Let us look at another possibility. There are huge chances that Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen will leave Liverpool. And also Brannagan and Stewart are not ready for the first team action. In that case Liverpool might need to bring in two midfielders. One Midfielder who can bolster their Midfield and another one who is young and talented. In that case Liverpool buying Højbjerg makes sense.

So, overall Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is not the quick solution to Liverpool’s midfield problems and considering that Liverpool might not need him. But, if two or more Central Midfielders leave Liverpool, then Liverpool can go for the Danish starlet.
