Liverpool Analysis: Stats Which Need To Improve If The Reds Are To Challenge For The Title

The wait for a premiere league trophy has been a long one for Liverpool fans as their side has not managed to be the best in England for quite some time. The Reds were really close to have their hands on the trophy in the magical season of domination by Sturridge and Suarez, however, after the departure of Suarez, Liverpool had two bad seasons with not so impressive finishes. After Klopp arrived at Anfield, the fans became really hopeful but we all known that Rome was not built in a day. The manager will certainly need to take his own time before he sees something splendid happening at Liverpool. However, there has been a lot of improvement in the squad and if the performances remain consistent, silverwares won’t be a distant dream.

A scope of improvement

As it has been the case with Liverpool, defensive problems have always troubled the side and there have been many occasions when crucial lead was thrown away by a defensive howler which led to dropping out the valuable points. Liverpool will need to improve on the number of goals they concede especially after taking the lead. The Reds are decent with the number of goals they score but not so well in holding on to the lead and this has to improve for the coming season.

Also, another important aspect that went horribly wrong in the last season was their record at Anfield. Liverpool did not manage to make an impact at Anfield and were better at the away games. It is a known fact that if you want to remain at the top of the table in the premiere league, the home record has to be splendid. Liverpool will need to make Anfield their fortress if they are to challenge for the trophy this time around.

One more factor that was observed last season was in the number of goals that were coming from different parts of the pitch. Liverpool had goals coming majorly from the attacking midfielders; which is a good thing. However, the contribution in terms of the number of goals from the strikers was not that significant. Liverpool will need to improve on this and they will have to rely on Sturridge and Origi for that. Their attacking midfield combination is looking pretty good, but the strikers will further need to strengthen their game and score more goals.
