Stats Show That Liverpool’s Acquisition From Newcastle Is A Better Deal For The Club Than Sadio Mane

The Merseyside club Liverpool have done a great business so far. The German manager has signed seven new players in this window, and even till date, it seems like he is still looking for more. Well, to be honest, Liverpool do need some major reinforcement in some areas, especially in defence. The midfield is already congested for the Reds and the arrival of the players like Sadio Mane and Gini Wijnaldum has excelled the squad even more.

The Senegalese international has already cemented his place on the right flank, while the Dutch international’s role is yet to be finalized. The manager, in the pre-season fixtures, tried using him in the central midfield, but the 25-year-old failed to put a mark defensively, hence, it is clear that his natural position should be in the attacking areas.

Both the midfielders, signed from the Premier League club itself, gave some stellar shows last season, but the former Newcastle man failed to prevent his side from relegation. There is no doubt that both of them are talented stars, but to know who had a better season, we need to compare them both statistically:

Mane vs Wijnaldum-

For the starters, the former Southampton man, Sadio Mane, played 37 games for the side last season and scored 11 goals, including a hat-trick against Manchester City. On the other hand, the Dutch international played every single game for the Magpies, and also scored the same amount of goals as Mane, i.e., 11.

While it was about creating chances for the team, it is Wijnaldum, who comes out as a winner as he created 48 chances, while Mane was only able to create 41. But we all are aware of the fact that goals change games, hence the winner of this round would be Mane as he bagged 6 assists, which is just one more than Wijnaldum.

Both the midfielders shares the same number when it comes to the count of the Man of the Match, i.e., three. But while talking about the shooting accuracy, it is Wijnaldum ,who is miles ahead of the Senegalese, as he possessed the average shooting accuracy of 71%, while Mane only had 52%.

When it comes to the distribution, Wijnaldum grabs the award yet again as he averaged a passing accuracy of 85% and completed 1049 passes. On the other hand, Mane had the accuracy of 81& and completed just 776 passes. Even the fair play award would go to the Dutch midfielder as he only had one booking to his name in the entire season, while Mane bagged 5 yellow cards and 2 red cards last season.

When it comes to the pressing, which Liverpool will be doing for most of the time, We have Wijnaldum as a clear winner as he won 56% of his average duels and won 50 out of his 83 take ons. On the other hand, Mane only averaged 50% success while doing the same and won 77 out of his 140 take ons.

There is no doubt that these two are the wonderful signings, but stats never lie, and hence, we have a clear winner in the game and he is Gini Wijnaldum.
