Joe Allen joined Stoke City from Liverpool earlier this summer for a reported amount of £13m fee, however, the way the 26-year-old midfielder departed was disappointing for him.

Allen had been looking for a move out of the Anfield, however, his move after being out of favour under the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp. However, during his move, the lack of communication between Allen and the Reds turned things into more disappointing for the player.

“I actually had a text message off a friend congratulating me about making the move when I didn’t even know it was happening at the time,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

“Not knowing whether the club intend to sell you or keep you, especially when you’re trying to ask the question, is disappointing.

“If I’m honest, to find out they accepted an offer through the press isn’t the best way of going about business, I don’t think. The communication wasn’t great but as soon as Liverpool accepted an offer I knew what their intentions were for me.

“It was a bit strange but that’s how things happen sometimes. There was no real goodbye, but I’m not the most sentimental person anyway. It’s irrelevant now because sitting here I’ve got the move I wanted.”

Allen joined Liverpool in 2012 for a reported fee of £15m from Swansea after the former Reds manager Brendan Rogers made his move to the Anfield. The Welsh international played 132 encounters in all competitions during his four years at the club, which include his 37 appearances in all competitions last season for the Reds.

Allen made his debut at Stoke City last Saturday, coming off the bench, while they drew 1-1 against Middlesborough.

The Wales international was expecting to become a fringe player under Jurgen Klopp this season and but he said last week that his time under the German wasn’t what he had hoped.

“When a new manager comes in, you’re hoping you can impress and get in the team,” said Allen, as quoted by the Mirror.

“I thought that his style would suit me, but it wasn’t quite to be. In all fairness, the competition in midfield was tough all season so there’s not too many complaints on my part.

“I don’t want to be sat twiddling my thumbs on the bench.”
