Jurgen Klopp Press Conference – Injury Update, Sakho Situation, Thoughts On Corruption And More

Liverpool look set to continue their great run in the Premier League and are set to face Swansea on Saturday. The Reds have been in great goal-scoring form but there was bigger news at the start of the week.

Jurgen Klopp appeared on Monday Night Football and blew everyone away with his insight on the game. The Reds manager was in buoyant mood as he spoke to the press before the clash against the Welsh side.

The German did speak about the injury update in the side and highlighted that Divock Origi could miss out.

“Not too much news. It’s a normal training week with a couple of little things here, little things there.

“Divock had a little knock on his foot, but in the end it’s nothing major, but maybe it is a little bit of too short a period for the game.”

The French defender, who had been out of the side for long, played in a U23 game and Klopp didn’t reveal all too much about the situation.

The manager decided to keep things close to his chest.

“I spoke to Mama and from my side everything is done and now we can carry on.”

It does seem like Sakho might be considered in the near future. But the French defender has to stay away from his rants on social media it seems.

Swansea are not an easy team

The Swans might be only on 4 points and in 17^th place but Klopp was wary of the side. Liverpool did lose against the Swans last season after their Europa League excursion.

“We will be prepared for this game. We know about the quality of Swansea. We lost there last year after coming back from Villarreal.

“We shouldn’t compare with the game last year. It was a difficult week and we had to make a lot of changes in the line-up.

“We had to make a lot of changes v Swansea last season. In that moment it was too much for us.”

The German also stated that the players have no excuses this time around and should perform to their best.

“Now we have absolutely no excuses. We have time to recover, we have time to train and prepare.”

A base for the rest of the season

Barring the blip against Burnley, Liverpool have been great this season. And the manager was not going to rest on his laurels with a long way to go for the season.

“In this part of the season you create a base for the rest of the season.

“It is too early to talk about the games gone. Christmas will come, the weather will change, in this moment everything is okay but we need to stay fit and have luck with injuries.

“It’s better to have a good start but we have to build on it.”

No corruption in football

The other big news of the week has been the investigations by the Telegraph into football corruption. The German manager, however, stated that he has never had to deal with such a situation.

“Everybody has been talking about them… the last few days.

“Actually it’s a problem for me to speak about because I don’t understand. I have nothing to say. I have no experience of it. It’s not a positive thing. So I have nothing to say.”

Liverpool should perform well

Swansea away or any away game in the Premier League will not be easy. The Reds do not have any European games this season and that should ensure the squad is fresh. Liverpool could miss out on Divock Origi

Should Liverpool play in the same manner that they did against Hull, they should win easily. Swansea though will be a tough tie as they performed well against Manchester City last week. Klopp will have to keep his team charged up and three more points can keep the Champions League dream alive.
