Can Liverpool Do A Leicester City This Season? Reds Legend Believes They Can

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stated that Jurgen Klopp can lead the club to a Premier League title without players such as Steven Gerrard in the side. The former defender was speaking to the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red podcast and stated that Leicester’s story from last season was something the Reds should look up to.

“Steven Gerrard’s not there anymore. We’d have all said we’d have no chance of winning the European Cup or Premier League without him. You can never be bound by one person.”

The pundit also stated that Klopp was a special manager and is the best fit for Liverpool.

“I think Klopp is a special manager, at the moment I don’t think we could get anyone better than him in how he’s suited to the club.”

Carragher also highlighted that Liverpool could pull off a Leicester City and that the two cup finals from last season were good signs for the Reds.

“In terms of winning a league or the cup, you look at the Leicester situation, sometimes it’s not just about what you do but what the other teams do.

“You could have a season, it could be this season, are we the best squad? Probably not but we’ve made a great start.

“In terms of Klopp over these next couple of seasons, he’s been to two cup finals and you hope a manager like that can bring us some trophies, it’s not easy, we’ve had a barren spell.”

Klopp’s magic starting to show

Jurgen Klopp also celebrated one year in charge of the team and Liverpool have come a long way from 8th October 2015. They are the highest scorers in the Premier League (Tied with Manchester City) and are just a couple of points behind City who lead the table.

They are also going great guns in the EFL Cup and have dismantled Derby and Burton in their two games. The side is playing some irresistible football and there is no fear in the team either.

Going up and winning at Arsenal, Chelsea and defeating Leicester comfortably at home just proves that Liverpool are a force to be reckoned with.

Premier League title in the offering?

Although it is too early in the season to say that Liverpool will win the title, the signs are good. Liverpool’s real test will be when they face the Manchester sides and United will be up next once the international break is over.

Manchester United are stuttering but they have a lot of quality that can turn a game around and Klopp should be aware of that. While Liverpool do start as slight favourites, Klopp has not defeated the Red Devils in the league so far.

Manchester City would have been the toughest test for the Reds but Tottenham defeating Pep Guardiola’s side proves no side is assured of winning the Premier League.

Could Liverpool do a Leicester?

Jamie could be right, this could be another season where a team like Leicester wins the title. They did not have just one star player but a number of players turned up for them across the season. And Liverpool seem to be doing just that.

Leicester had almost every player playing out of their skin and a similar situation is taking place at Liverpool. If the Reds can deal with their defensive and goalkeeping issues, there could be a real party at Anfield come the end of the season.
