Liverpool Boss Still Not Happy With His Side Ahead Of EFL Cup Game Against Tottenham

Liverpool have been fantastic this season and have achieved an incredible start too. The Reds have picked up 20 points from their opening nine games of the season. And the Reds have lost just once all season and that was a surprising one against Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp’s side picked up another three points against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and the win saw them climb up to third in the league. The Merseyside club are just behind Manchester City and Arsenal on goal difference.

Many would expect Klopp to be extremely happy with the start of the season but the German stated that there is a lot of work to be done for the side still. The Liverpool manager was speaking on Monday to reporters and stated:

“You need to stay in the race, you need to stay concentrated,

“We need to get better. Nothing we’ve done is close to 100 percent.

“I know we’re not on halfway, so there’s a lot of things to improve. In most games it’s been almost enough to win.

“Nobody feels in the dressing room it’s not possible to do better.

“We can defend better, attack better, create better.

“Otherwise we could holiday all week and meet Saturday or Sunday. It makes sense to have a few sessions in the week!”

Klopp makes a decent point

Although the Reds are close to the top of the league table and have been playing great football, the German manager is right in his assessment of the side. The Merseyside club have been poor when it comes to defending set-pieces and conceded yet again in the game against the Baggies.

Liverpool also have been poor in doing away with sides and often have won games with just a goal lead. Chelsea, West Brom and Arsenal are just some of the examples of close fought matches that certainly should have seen the Reds blow away their opponents and win by two or more goals.

There are also questions being raised about the goalkeeping situation but Klopp has stated that Loris Karius is the number one at the club.

The Reds do need to get better and they will have a chance of doing just that as they have a favourable run of fixtures in the Premier League. Liverpool are playing football similar to that of that incredible season under Brendan Rodgers. If the side can stop leaking in poor goals and finish teams off quicker, they could end up winning the Premier League.
