The links of Bundesliga players with Jurgen Klopp don’t seem to stop. The Liverpool manager did sign a few players from the German league for this season and it seems that the former Borussia Dortmund manager is going to raid rivals Schalke for Max Meyer, according to the reports from Daily Star.
The German manager seems to be a big fan of the 21-year-old and even though Meyer hasn’t played regularly for the national side, he could be a smart signing for the Reds. French outlet Le 10 Sport claims Klopp would be looking to sign the player and that he wanted to sign Meyer in the summer but was blocked by the Bundesliga club.
Schalke also did lose out Leroy Sane to Manchester City at the start of this season and that could be one reason why they did not want to lose out at another prized asset. The 21-year-old plays mostly as an attacking midfielder but can play out wide as well.
Meyer has made 10 appearances for the Royal Blues and has scored a goal this campaign. This isn’t the first club the German has been linked with, Meyer was also linked with a move to Tottenham but the youngster did share his views about the situation.
Meyer was quoted by the Bild as saying:
“I know that there was interest and the club was asked, but Schalke immediately put a stop to it. So the matter was settled.”
Jurgen Klopp did bring in Joel Matip and Loris Karius this season and they both have done decently this campaign. This isn’t the first player that Klopp will be linked with before the end of the season. Liverpool at the moment have a wealth of talent in their midfield and probably don’t need to sign Meyer.
What the Reds do need is another attacker that can play in a similar way to Sadio Mane. Klopp had spoken about the need to bring in someone who would replace Mane when the Senegalese would go away for duty in the African Cup of Nations. January and February will be a tough month for Liverpool and if they cannot bring in a quality replacement, their position in the top of the table might be under threat.
Christian Pulisic, another player from the Bundesliga has been linked with a move to the Merseyside club and he would certainly be a more important signing for the Reds than Meyer. The American has played in England earlier and is a Dortmund player, a perfect fit for Klopp and Liverpool, surely.
