Liverpool Star Hands Second Injury Boost In 24 Hours To Manager Klopp Ahead of Southampton Trip

Liverpool haven’t had the best of times when it comes to injuries to their attackers. The Reds did lose out on Danny Ings, again, for the entire season and we all know the history that follows Daniel Sturridge. But there is some good news on the way for Jurgen Klopp regarding Sheyi Ojo.

The youngster was one of the bright sparks during the final third of last season and even broke into the first team. Ojo did make 11 appearances for the Merseyside club and was expected to continue his progress this season but an injury during preseason ensured he would not take part this season.

The 19-year-old attacker suffered an injury to his back against Roma and was expected to make a return to the side in September. But another injury ensured he would not be able to make it to the Liverpool side.

The England U19 international though posted a picture on social media and it seems he is ready to make a return to the side. Ojo did take part in a training session at Melwood and it seems to be only a matter of time before he does start playing for the reserve side and then the first team.

Even Joe Gomez made his return and played 45 minutes in the 6-0 win in a friendly against Accrington. This was Gomez’s first game in 13 months and it will provide more relief for Jurgen Klopp as the German manager has had to deal with a number of injuries since coming to England.

Players returning at the right time for Klopp

The return of the duo could not have come at a better time for the former Borussia Dortmund manager. Klopp does not have enough quality defenders in his team and Joe Gomez could certainly play as a left-back or even a centre-back. This should ensure that Klopp can get rid of Mamadou Sakho in the winter window and also stop using Lucas Leiva consistently as a defender.

Ojo’s return is the better talking point. The Englishman was quality last season and he could do well in this new look Liverpool attack that has been going all guns blazing. Ojo would certainly be able to play the Saido Mane role when the Senegalese go away on African Cup of Nations’ duty.

The Reds might not have to move in the winter window to cover Mane’s loss and who knows, Ojo could be the bright spark that continues Liverpool’s rise to the top of the Premier League.
