Jurgen Klopp Explains Why He Took His Side For A Trip To Barcelona

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed why he took the team out for a trip to Barcelona after the cataclysmic 4-3 loss at the hands of Bournemouth last weekend. The Reds were leading 3-1 in the second half but switched off as Eddie Howe’s men scripted a remarkable win over the Merseyside club.

That loss, coupled with wins for Arsenal and Chelsea, saw the Reds slip down to third and the club is four points behind the leaders, Chelsea. And instead of Klopp tearing at the team for the manner of the loss, the German took the side for a Champions League game to Barcelona.

The Catalan club did win their match and the media was abuzz as to why the manager had taken the side away. Klopp did speak about his decision to take the side away, in between the Premier League games. As quoted by Squawka, he said:

“When you do something like this it’s the best thing to do after a loss.

“After you lose everyone wants to go home and be alone, so it was good for us to stay together and have a good time.”

A different approach taken by Klopp

While it is true the Reds were horrible in the second half against the Cherries, the team has done rather well this season. Many pundits have picked on the defence and goalkeeper Loris Karius but we must remember the Reds had kept clean sheets against Sunderland and Southampton before the loss against Bournemouth.

There are a few pundits who have claimed that this was a freak game, something along the lines of Liverpool’s wins over Borussia Dortmund and Norwich last season. There was another reason why the Reds lost and that was the loss of Joel Matip from the starting XI.

The Cameroon star was injured in the last game but should be back in the match against West Ham on Sunday. There was some more good news regarding the defence as Matip has stated that he would not be going for the African Cup of Nations.

Adam Lallana also got a few minutes on the pitch against Bournemouth and should start for the Merseyside club against the Hammers. Liverpool will need his creativity as well, since Philippe Coutinho is set to be out till the end of January.

It will be interesting to see how the midweek trip works out for the Reds. This certainly is a different method taken up by the former Borussia Dortmund manager and hopefully, it could lead to three important points on Sunday.
