Klopp Targets Ex- Manchester United Speedster To Boost Liverpool’s Attack In January

Liverpool Transfer News

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have been searching for a quality attacker to add in the January transfer window and Football Whispers believes that the Reds are willing to sign up Wilfried Zaha.

The current Crystal Palace winger has scored three goals and provided six assists this season and has been one of the best players for a Palace side which has struggled in the Premier League. The 24-year-old has certainly revived his career after returning to Palace after a poor spell at Manchester United.

The former English international even decided to play for his birth nation, the Ivory Coast in 2016 due to a lack of matches for the England national team and that could affect the decision of Klopp moving for him.

AFCON for Zaha?

The Palace winger certainly is a tricky customer to deal with and is considered to be similar to Sadio Mane when it comes to his playing style. He is great out wide and is known for his dribbling ability and pace but there could be one major issue with a move for Zaha.

The Ivory Coast star could be heading out to join his new national side for the African Cup of Nations, something that Liverpool would not want to deal with. The Premier League side will be losing Mane for the tournament and bringing in his replacement, who will also be leaving, doesn’t really make a lot of sense.

Barring that, signing a former Manchester United player isn’t the best move when it comes to pleasing the fans. Zaha might be having a decent season in terms of goals and assists but the 24-year-old hasn’t been the most consistent player in the league and that again is something that would worry Klopp.

Liverpool do have some factors working for them, such as the deal for Christian Benteke and reportedly they are still owned some money from the transfer of the Belgian at the start of the season.

Zaha too wants to play European football and was a target for Spurs in the offseason but a deal could not be thrashed out. There are also doubts about whether the player can deal with starring for a big club like Liverpool, after his poor time at Manchester United.

The 24-year-old, though, has become better with each season at Palace and could work extremely well in Klopp’s front three. Switching places with Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho, who play out wide, the attack of the Reds could certainly get more menacing with the addition of the pacey winger.

Liverpool have had a history of poor Premier League signings but that seems to have changed with the arrival of Jurgen Klopp. Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum look great so far and even old boys such as Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren look quality.

Spending £20-30million on the 24-year-old might be a little expensive but something similar was said about signing Mane and he has turned out to be an absolute gem for the Merseyside club.
