Liverpool Look To Beat Manchester United To Sign Nottingham Forest Striker

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has always stated that he is looking at the transfer market and trying to bring in quality talent at the club. The German certainly likes to sign players with potential and another starlet seems to be on the radar of the Merseyside club.

Ben Brereton might not be a name that many know of at the moment but the 17-year-old Nottingham Forest attacker is the latest player that has caught the eye of Klopp, according to the reports from Nottingham Post. The Forest man has been on fire for the U23 side and has already scored 15 goals in 20 appearances.

The youngster even scored four goals in a 5-0 win away at Queens Park Rangers. Brereton even played against the Liverpool youth team in the FA Youth Cup in February and certainly caught the eye of the Liverpool hierarchy.

Klopp reportedly even called the academy director at the club and enquired about the availability of the forward but it isn’t just Liverpool who wants to sign the highly rated youngster. Manchester United are also in the running and so are a number of other English clubs wants to bring the striker over.

The rise of Brereton cannot be swept under the rug and there have been many calls for the 17-year-old to play for the senior side as well. Nottingham have provided themselves with some protection in terms of getting the youngster to sign a long-term contract but that only ensures the club gets a decent value for the player.

There are also a few that are comparing the rise of the youngster to that of Ben Woodburn. The Welsh striker did have a great time with the Reds as he became their youngest scorer recently and the Merseyside club will have to pay over the odds if they do want to sign Brereton over.

Reports claim that their rivals, United, are willing to bid over £1 million for the 17-year-old and the Reds might want to close the deal before it turns into a bidding war between the sides.

Forest aren’t in a great position at the moment and also have a transfer embargo upon them. The side might have to sell to raise funds for the running of the club and this is a situation that many will be keeping an eye on for a while.

Brereton has a lot of time to develop and grow as a quality footballer but he would need the best coaching and which club is better than Liverpool at the moment for that? Not only would he be working under one of the best coaches in the world, he would also have a real chance of playing should he impress the manager enough.
