Paris Saint-Germain v AS Monaco - Ligue 1

Liverpool haven’t made any real moves in the winter transfer window and have seen a number of targets stay put with their current clubs. The likes of Mahmoud Dahoud, Quincy Promes and Christian Pulisic seem to be staying at their clubs but the Reds are now being linked with a move for Tiemoue Bakayoko of Monaco.

The 22-year-old has been one of the star players for the Ligue 1 side and the Liverpool Echo believe the Merseyside club are tracking the French defensive midfielder. Bakayoko has made 23 appearances for the French side and has a couple of goals to his name as well.

While everyone has been talking about the attacking verve that Liverpool possess there is no doubt that they could do with another midfielder who gives them a bit of stability in front of the back four. The Reds do not have a lot of quality when it comes to defensive midfielders and with Jordan Henderson out for a while, the results haven’t been that great.

The 22-year-old Monaco star is known for his tackling and dribbling ability and is a combative player to have in the centre of the park. Liverpool though face great competition for his signing and even the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal are tracking Bakayoko (h/t Le10Sport, via Liverpool Echo).

When will the signings come at Anfield?

This must be a real tough winter for Liverpool fans and it simply seems to get tougher. The Reds were seen as champions-elect after a great start to the season but their position has slipped and now they have to win at Manchester United if they want to be five points behind Chelsea.

The Blues have been in great form and once they take a lead, they don’t give it up. The Reds, on the other hand, struggled in certain games such as the one away to Bournemouth and even Sunderland, a couple of weeks ago.

Had the Reds kept their lead from those games, they would have had the same number of points as the Blues but Klopp has to work hard and ensure they do not blow a great chance of at least finishing in the top four.

Liverpool need to have steel in their midfield and in the rest of the team and maybe Bakayoko is the kind of player that can take him to the next level. For now, they really have to quickly bring in a player or two otherwise this season too will be a tough one to swallow for the fans.
