Liverpool Transfer News – Jurgen Klopp Talks About His January Transfer Decision With Regards To Midfielder

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed the situation about Lucas Leiva and whether the Brazilian will remain a Liverpool player come the end of this transfer window.

Inter Milan were the side that was linked for the longest time and there were reports that the Serie A side had already tabled a bid for the midfielder. Atletico Mineiro was the next club that wanted to bring Lucas back to Brazilian but it seems he will not be going anywhere according to Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager was speaking after his side won 1-0 against Plymouth Argyle and it was Lucas who got the only goal of the game.

Klopp was asked if Lucas would be remaining at Anfield this month;

“I would say yes”, Klopp was quoted by the Express Sport.

Should Lucas remain at the club beyond this month, it could effectively end his Anfield career at the end of the season as he would be free to join another club.

While his future isn’t all that clear, the German manager did shed some light on Lucas’ goal scoring abilities. The Brazilian had only scored his first goal in seven years but the former Borussia Dortmund man stated that Lucas constantly scored in practice and training.

“Every week in training we play old versus young and he is a top scorer for old, which is unbelievable.”

While the news would mean good news for Lucas as he can concentrate on his career at Liverpool, it does ask a few questions about Klopp and his transfer dealings.

The German was expected to sign an attacking player in the winter window and he had even alluded that they would be bringing in cover for Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho but with only a few days left to go for the window to shut down, there is no chance of any player coming in.

The Reds might be eight points behind the Premier League leaders but their attacking ability has been greatly hit in the New Year with no wins in the Premier League and only one win in their last four.

The 1-0 win over Plymouth might have been an extremely scrappy one but a win is a win and if the Reds can win the remaining games with the same score line, not many Liverpool fans would be upset. Liverpool have a chance of doing something good but they need to continue playing in the way they were dismantling teams in the start of the season.
