The Brazilian hasn’t really said a lot about his future but he has stated that Liverpool is the best place for him at the moment but he conceded that he needs to play more games at this stage of his career. As quoted by Sky Sports
, the 30-year-old Brazilian said:“If, by the end of January, I am here, it will be great. This is the best place for me to be right now.
“But I cannot tell you in two months’ time, four months’ time or one year’s time. I have to think about my future. But it is all good. I am happy in this moment and I just have to go day-by-day.
“I had a few options to go. I have to think about my long-term. I know I don’t have many years left here. I have to start to think about it.”
Lucas is the longest serving Liverpool player at the moment and the former Gremio midfielder also shared his relationship with Klopp at Liverpool.
“Liverpool is a place I love, there is no doubt about that, but this is more about thinking about my future as well. Game time, things like this. I have to deal with it.
“The manager and I have a fantastic relationship. I have learned a lot from him. He is someone I appreciate working with.
“I am learning all the time. It is not just in terms of football, I am learning from him as a man.”
Lucas was expected to leave the club in the winter window but it seems that Klopp does want him to stay at Merseyside until the season is over.
The Brazilian was the only goal scorer in the 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup though he has been primarily used as a centre-back this season. Lucas might want to play more games but with Joel Matip coming back to the side after the FIFA ruling, his minutes in league football won’t be getting any higher.
The 30-year-old only has six months left on his contract and it does seem he will be playing at a new club come the start of the next campaign. Hopefully, he can create some more magic at Anfield and win a Premier League title before he leaves.
