Liverpool Captain Highly Pumped Up For The Chelsea Game

Liverpool were humbled at home by Swansea, who were at the bottom of the Premier League coming to Anfield. The Reds would have wanted to put the pressure on Chelsea at the top of the table but a poor showing let the Swans pick up the three points after a five-goal thriller.

The Reds were poor and there have been a number of performances when the side has just not clicked. Jordan Henderson was one player who had a poor outing in the game against the Welsh side but wasn’t worried about losing out on the title race and insisting that Liverpool can still learn from the game. And he was highly pumped up for their crucial game vs the league leaders Chelsea in the next premier league game week.

The Liverpool captain was quoted by the Daily Mail after the 3-2 loss at Anfield as saying:

“One defeat doesn’t make you a bad team, we’ve still got a lot of confidence in the squad,

“No-one knows that (what effect losing to Swansea has done to their title aspirations), we’ll find out at the end of the season.

“But it’s how you react after defeats, that’s how you can show character, show your spirit and show how good you are as a team in the game after.”

Henderson was also looking forward to the next game and was looking for the side to bounce back

“The next game is very important for us, and we need to react in the right way.

“We still feel very confident as a team, we’ve got brilliant players and we just need to keep going the way we have.”

Liverpool’s struggles in 2017

The Reds have only won one game in 2017 and that was the FA Cup replay against League Two Plymouth Argyle. The Merseyside club haven’t been at their fluent best but have to be a little hopeful since Philippe Coutinho has made a return to the side.

Sadio Mane has been a big miss as he has travelled with the Senegal side to play in the AFCON. It was a surprise that Klopp did not bring in a replacement for the winger and now Liverpool are paying for not having a quality back-up.

The next game for the side is the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Southampton which they trail 1-0. The Saints will be tough to beat and if Liverpool do not get their attacking ability on, they will struggle to beat Claude Puel’s side.

A win by a two-goal margin would send the club to a third final in 18 months and that could be the pick me up required by Klopp and his men.
