Leeds United’s Garry Monk Identifies Liverpool Whizzkid As Potential Target

Leeds United are weighing up a £2.5 million summer swoop for Liverpool’s academy star Ryan Kent, writes the Sun.

The winger was on loan at Barnsley this campaign and has been gaining positive feedbacks. Garry Monk is reportedly star-struck with Kent after the Liverpool loanee put on a strong performance against his side, where the Tykes were on the winning end of a 3-2 scoreline two weeks ago.

Pivotal within the victory was Kent’s quick change of pace and trickery that gave the defenders no end of problems. Moreover, the 20-year-old netted Barnsley’s second goal with a low drive from his powerful left foot. Now, he leads Monk’s wish list for the next transfer window. The same source added that Kent is happy to stay at Oakwell until the end of the season but will look to find a new home in summer if Jurgen Klopp does not offer him assurance over his future.

On the other hand, he has all qualities to push Sadio Mane or even other attackers who are deployed along the flanks for the first-team spot. He is showing shades of the Senegalese winger with his tendency to take on defenders on the move and unleash strikes from narrow gaps. With such attributes, Klopp might also be tempted to rebrand him as a false nine.

The Merseyside club’s rotten start to the year continues as they were beaten 2-0 by Hull City on Saturday. Klopp’s men were simply not good enough to earn themselves any points as they lacked ideas to break into the home side’s organised defensive line. In fact, Hull didn’t make many chances either but made the most of those limited ones to seize maximum points.

The Reds continue to flip flop between poor form and defensive errors. The clamour for a new signing was snubbed in the winter window and they still struggle to find an immediate answer to turn their fortunes around. So the fans have all rights to wonder why not call back Kent?

Recently, Leeds did sign two wingers on loan, rounding it up to three including Hadi Sacko who sealed a move to the Whites on loan last summer. If any of the trio does not hit the ground running, Monk will have additional reasons to place a bid for Kent.

The Elland Road outfit believe £2.5 million would be enough to compromise Liverpool but judging from the club’s recent outgoings, they will be seeking more cash for their young talent.

If Kent continues to extend his fine run of form, it wouldn’t be long before other Premier League clubs throw in an offer.

Do you think Ryan Kent deserves a shot for Liverpool next season?
