Odds Slashed In Liverpool’s Race To Sign Celtic Striker – Is A Swap Deal Ideal For Both The Clubs?

Brendan Rodgers certainly is enjoying his time in Scotland as he is set to win the Scottish Premiership with the likelihood of going through the league season unbeaten.

Moussa Dembele, the 20-year-old French striker has played in England with Fulham before moving to Celtic and has been a hit in the Premiership. Rodgers’ old club, Liverpool are now 15/8 favourites in the race to sign the striker according to .

The Reds have done well with Roberto Firmino at the top of the attack but the lack of options has been a problem for the German manager.

While Dembele would be a great option to have off the bench it does cast a doubt on the future of Daniel Sturridge. The former Manchester City and Chelsea striker has struggled to find a place in the starting XI and there have been many rumours stating that he would be on his way out

of Anfield in the summer.

While the likes of French giants PSG are interested  in the Englishman, along with West Ham and Stoke City, Liverpool might not want to sell him to another Premier League side. The fee quoted for the 27-year-old is £30 million by the Mirror and that might prove to be a problem for some of his admirers.

Sturridge hasn’t played too many games for the Reds this season and his injury record also precedes him. Getting such a large fee for him, won’t be easy. But Klopp will want to replace him as soon as possible and avoid another Mamadou Sakho situation, regarding the lack of a transfer move.

Celtic Park calling Sturridge?

What might seem as a ludicrous link at the moment, Celtic could actually bring Sturridge over to Scotland as the striker looks to regain his mojo in front of goal. Before people scoff at the idea, it does have its merits. The Scottish league isn’t as robust as the Premier League and the striker enjoyed his best season under Rodgers at Liverpool.

Owners FSG would also want to get an amicable solution and sending him out on loan could give him the confidence in front of goal and a six-month spell would not be the worst option for either side.

Wages would certainly be an issue if Sturridge is to join the Scottish champions and the fact that Klopp may want a permanent solution rather than a loan deal is another hurdle to cross.

Sturridge too, might not want to move to Scotland as he still is one of the best in England. Should Dembele actually make it to Liverpool, it will be interesting for a number of strikers at the club but Sturridge looks set to leave whether the deal is completed or not.
