Steven Gerrard is certainly moving up the ranks when it comes to coaching and managing at Liverpool. The former captain had re-joined his boyhood club as part of the academy coaching team at the start of the year and Jurgen Klopp has now stated that Gerrard would be taking charge of the Under-18’s next season.

When the German manager was asked about the future of Gerrard and if he really was taking over the U18 side, Klopp said:

“There’s no announcement to do at this moment… but what I can say probably is… yes.”

Klopp also added that Gerrard had done well but didn’t give away any real details of which side or age group the Englishman would manage.

“He is doing a really good job at the academy at the moment with his presence and everything. He enjoys it a lot.

“Yes he will be a coach of the youth team next season. I’m pretty sure. But we will tell you exactly which team when we want to tell.”

Liverpool’s future manager in the making

What many called a PR stunt when Gerrard was appointed and brought into the academy as a coach, it does seem that the Englishman can do well behind the scenes and it will be interesting to see if he can be successful as a manager for a youth team.

Liverpool haven’t had a manager who is from Merseyside in a long time and this promotion would only add fuel to the fire that Gerrard could become the manager of the Reds in a few years.

For now, they will have to deal with Klopp at the helm and if Gerrard does pick up a few tips from the German that will only add to his coaching abilities.

Gerrard had missed out on the Premier League title as a player and he would be looking to get one in as the manager of the Reds someday.
