According to the Mirror, Philippe Coutinho was widely expected to be ready for the game against Southampton this weekend but he was not a part of the Liverpool training session that took place on Wednesday.
Coutinho was taken off 13 minutes into the game against Watford due to a dead leg. However, it was confirmed that the Brazilian wouldn’t miss Liverpool’s clash against Southampton. But on Wednesday, Coutinho was not found in the Reds’ training session.
It was a mild session after a heavy game against Watford as a majority of stars who were involved in the game were given two days of recovery. Wednesday was the second day of recovery and Coutinho is expected to return to full training today.
Daniel Sturridge was seen spending time with fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer. The star against Watford last weekend, Emre Can was involved in light training along with Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum.
The full preparation for the game against Southampton is expected to start today and we’ll have to wait to see if Coutinho gets involved in it.
Liverpool were back in Champions League contention after beating Watford last weekend. The win was a huge boost considering that Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal all dropped points. The Reds will hope to finish in the top-4 and they can do so by winning the games that they have in hand.
They face Southampton at home this weekend, followed by a trip to London where they face West Ham United. Liverpool will then take on Middlesbrough on the final day of the Premier League. A victory in all these games would assure Liverpool of a top-4 finish, which in turn would assure of a place in next year’s Champions League.
