Personal Terms Agreed – Liverpool Closing In On First Summer Signing For £25million

Liverpool are believed to be closing in on a £25million deal for Burnley sensation Michael Keane, according to the Mirror. The Reds have long been linked with a lot of defenders as the major problem this season has been their defence. It has been reported that the principle terms have been agreed between the player and the club, with Burnley well aware of their losing battle in a valiant attempt to keep hold of their promising young talent.

The report also claims that Keane is only waiting to see Liverpool’s final league position before signing the terms, as he wants Champions League football. If Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League (which looks unlikely), then Keane may not opt to join the Reds.

Keane was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award alongside Dele Alli, Harry Kane and others. This clearly indicates the kind of season he has had and it is not surprising that Liverpool are keen on signing such a young English talent.

The Reds have the joint-worst defensive record among the top-6 sides in the table and a massive improvement is needed at the back if a genuine title challenge is to be launched next season. It now looks like the board is doing the right thing by targeting young and talented defenders.

Michael Keane has been a huge plus for Burnley this season as they have stayed up in the Premier League after being widely tipped to get relegated. Keane has been solid for Burnley ever since he joined them from Manchester United. He has made 39 appearances for Burnley this season and has 2 goals and an assist to his name. Keane is strong in the air, reads the game well and doesn’t plunge into tackles. He is only 24-years old and is quite mature for a player of his age.

However, the fact that the reported sum of money is £25million is something that needs some thought. Certainly, the money involved isn’t anything less, but it isn’t too high either. The player has had a really good season, he is young, and is English. So the price can be considered nominal taking all these factors into account. At least he doesn’t cost as much as John Stones.
