Liverpool Ready To Hijack £40million French International From The Clutches of Atletico Madrid

Alexandre Lacazette has been one of the players heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for the last couple of years. Clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool have shown interest in the player for some time now. It is certain that the striker will be leaving French club Olympique Lyon in the summer, and it seemed that he would be on his way to England after all those years of rumours. Yet, Atletico Madrid appeared to have won the race for the player after reportedly coming to a verbal agreement in the last few weeks (Sky Sports

Liverpool, though, have once again put the Premier League back in the reckoning for the striker after refusing to give up on the 26-year-old as per reports from Liverpool Echo. Jurgen Klopp is very much keen on signing a striker in the summer in order to replace Daniel Sturridge. Despite the excellent goals to game ratio of the England international, the manager is least pleased with the availability of the player being limited due to several injury problems. Lacazette may not have Premier League experience, but he has clearly shown in recent years that his goal scoring abilities are second to none.

The French international is valued in excess of £40million by Lyon, but Atletico Madrid will have no trouble in meeting the figure. Liverpool’s serious approach to the transfer does make it hard for the Spanish club to complete the signing. Just like Atletico, Liverpool have had a history of top strikers with Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres amongst the recent names to make their name at Anfield. Atletico have produced some great forwards like Sergio Aguero, Diego Costa, and Diego Forlan out of potential alone.

Lacazette finished as one of the highest scorers in French Ligue1. His tally of 28 league goals was only bettered by Edinson Cavani of Paris St. Germain who scored 35 league goals. This has not been a sole outstanding campaign for the player, as he has scored 91 league goals in the last 4 seasons in the French league. A signing like Lacazette would be ideal for Liverpool considering the similarities between the French league and the Premier league – at least in terms of physicality.
