Alright, gear up for another positive transfer news to add some flavour to a beautiful Thursday evening. Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah, who currently plays for AS Roma.
The news from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Metro) is that the 24-year old’s agent is in England and that he has already reached an agreement. It seems like it is now up to Roma to decide whether they want to sell the player or not.
Liverpool’s main issue is now to settle on a transfer fee with Roma. The Serie A club are demanding €35 million (£30.4m) but are open to selling the winger as his contract expires in 2019 and a renewal this summer would prove costly.
Salah’s arrival at Anfield would be his second stint in England, with the winger having already played for Chelsea. Salah joined Chelsea in a £11million deal, that saw him make only 19 senior appearances for the Blues, before being sold to AS Roma. The Egypt international scored 15 goals and registered 11 assists to help Roma finish second in Serie A.
The former Chelsea player would be a great addition to our squad as he would suit Jurgen Klopp’s high tempo football. Salah is extremely quick and is technically sound as well. His presence would not give Sadio Mane a free run in the team and this will prompt him to do even better. Mane scored 13 goals in an injury-hit season and surely, Salah and Mane will keep the right wing on fire.
However, £30.4million seems to be a bit excessive and it is possible for us to negotiate a better deal. In case Roma decides to sell the player, it’d be a great piece of business by the Reds.
