Liverpool Turn Down The Chance To Complete Transfer Deal – Derby To Return With A Higher Bid

Liverpool have rejected an offer of £1 million from Championship side Derby County for Andre Wisdom according to the Telegraph. The report claims that we are holding out for more from the side and manager Gary Rowett will come back with an improved offer.

The 24-year-old did spend last season on loan at RB Salzburg and many expected him to remain in Austria but it does make more sense for the right-back to return to Derby since he had one of his best seasons when he was stationed there during the 2013-14 season.

The Englishman did have a successful season last time around as he won the Austrian league with the club and even picked up a cup, but Derby seem to be hell bent on getting Wisdom.

Rowett is reportedly making Wisdom one of his priority signings ahead of next season and the Englishman’s versatility of playing across the backline certainly is an added bonus for the Championship side.

Wisdom can play as a centre-back as well and with the 24-year-old not featuring in Klopp’s plans next season, it isn’t a surprise that the German isn’t standing in the way of the defender. While we have rejected the first bid of £1 million, we are reportedly looking in the region of £2 million for the 24-year-old.

Not a surprising departure from the Reds

It isn’t really a big deal seeing Wisdom leave the club on a permanent basis ahead of next season. The Englishman has spent a number of seasons on loan at clubs like West Bromwich Albion and Norwich and unfortunately has not been able to make his mark for the Liverpool side, either.

Klopp has taken up the mantle of letting go of players that aren’t going to feature in his plans, even if they are youngsters. Jordon Ibe and Brad Smith were a couple of high-profile youth players that were let go last season and Wisdom seems to be the latest player to follow that route.

There were high expectations from Wisdom when he broke our senior squad under Brendan Rodgers but his development certainly stalled after a season or two. It is best for both parties if the deal is concluded as we get some pocket change while Wisdom’s future is set, for a while at least.
