The future of midfielder Emre Can has been under much speculation, as the midfielder only had 12 months left on his contract. There was a lot of talk about Juventus coming in to sign the player, and the Italian club would be hard to turn down considering that they have reached the Champions League final in two of the last three seasons. At this moment in time, Juventus will be able to provide Can with greater opportunities to win titles, although the situation is fast improving at Liverpool.
There is, however, good news for Liverpool fans, as Daily Mail reports that Can has agreed to a new contract with Liverpool and is expected to sign in the next few days. The midfielder is currently on holiday and is expected to return to the club’s pre-season in the next few days. Then, he will be putting pen to paper on a new deal which is expected to reward him with a significant pay raise.
Earlier, it was reported that Can was demanding around £100,000 per week in order to sign the new contract. The player has rejected such speculation, but he has not revealed the reasons for not signing a new deal just yet.
Can has been given an extended break since he was involved in the Confederations Cup with Germany. The German international is a key member of the Liverpool squad, as he has the ability to play in almost every area of the pitch with great impact. Last season, manager Jurgen Klopp utilised the midfielder in a number of positions including defence.
It is understood that Can has been given a promise that Liverpool will strengthen the squad in a number of areas. The promise has so far been met with the signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma for around £36.9 million. It is expected that Liverpool will make a £65 million offer for RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, who is a key transfer target for the club. Furthermore, we are also in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is valued at around €70 million
by the German club.Furthermore, the club are also expected to strengthen in the significant position of left-back, which is a source of major concern for the club. The club recently rejected an offer for Alberto Moreno, who is expected to leave once the signing of Andy Robertson from Hull City is done.
