‘I can see van Dijk transfer happening’ Independent.ie Columnist Gives Major Boost For Liverpool

As we move closer to the deadline day for summer transfers, it looks increasingly likely that Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk would make his move to Liverpool claims Reds legend, John Aldridge.

Aldridge feels that Van Dijk is ready to leave Southampton and finally get his dream move finalized before the transfer window closes. In his column for the Irish Independent

, he wrote:

“In an ideal world, the deal to get Virgil van Dijk out of Southampton could be revived and their signing of a Dutch international defender Wesley Hoedt suggests they may be covering themselves in case their ‘on strike’ centre-back leaves.”

“Van Dijk is at loggerheads with his employer and that is not a healthy situation. I can see something breaking there in the next few days and a transfer happening.”

Chance for Liverpool to correct the initial mistakes

That’s a very valid point from Aldridge because the Reds seem to have found out an ideal time and way to correct their earlier mistakes in Van Dijk’s case.

They were earlier reported by Southampton for illegal tapping-up of the player resulting in an embarrassing climb down and a public apology

. Everyone thought that the deal for the player will not happen this transfer window.

However, the player has already set his sights on a move to Anfield and his strike is a shot in the arm for Jurgen Klopp. Van Dijk has already told Southampton of his desire to leave this window and is banished from training with the first team.

Liverpool are tracking the situation closely and would like to get it right this time as they believe the Saints would be interested in having a deal in place. There is no dearth of suitors

for the player as Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been linked with a move.
