French Club Want Liverpool Striker – Klopp Open To Letting The Player Leave

Liverpool’s Belgian striker Divock Origi has become a summer target for French side Marseille, according to The Telegraph.

The youngster is a firm favorite of Jurgen Klopp but has fallen down in the pecking order at Anfield. Klopp has shown his preference to use Roberto Firmino as a false-nine rather than trusting Origi to do the job for him.

With a move for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the cards, it looks like the club is ready to listen to the offers for the striker. Even before signing any new strikers this transfer window, Origi’s chances of first-team action were limited. And following the addition of Dominic Solanke, things haven’t improved.

The manager believes that Origi has great potential but he is reluctantly prepared to let the 22-year-old go since he can’t guarantee Origi of major action at the club. The report claims that there is interest from Tottenham Hotspur and that Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign him as a cover for Harry Kane. However, it is the interest from Marseille that is firm and intriguing.

A Need For A Striker

The French side has been circling around the Premier League sides throughout the summer with a view of signing a striker. Initially, it was Olivier Giroud of Arsenal who was the target, although nothing moved on that front.

They have lost the services of Bafetimbi Gomis who moved to Galatasaray after returning to Swansea City following his loan stint. They have signed Valere Germain, who is rated very highly as a striker, but are looking to add another striker.

Origi’s Wasted Chance At Liverpool?

Origi was one of the blue-eyed young strikers when he signed for Liverpool from Lille. It was supposed to be a coup but the player has struggled to live up to his potential.

Klopp admires the talent of Origi and has often backed the player publicly. However, with an eye on cementing his national spot for the 2018 World Cup, Origi wants to have regular football which won’t be guaranteed at Anfield. Klopp isn’t opposed to the move and it is now up to Marseille to seal the deal in the next five days.
