Liverpool Handed Major Transfer Boost As Teammates Believe Player Wants Anfield Switch Rather Than Chelsea

Liverpool have made a huge push to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal and steal a march over Premier League competitors Chelsea, according to The Mirror.

The Arsenal contract rebel has rejected the latest offer of £180,000-a-week from the club and has indicated his desire of leaving the club. With the prospect of ‘losing him for free next season’ looming on the horizon, the Gunners want to minimise their losses and sell him in this transfer window.

The 24-year old joined Arsenal from Southampton, but hasn’t been a regular for Arsene Wenger, although he became a regular first-team player for the Gunners over the past six months.

There is a sense of despair that Arsenal left it late for the negotiations by offering a new contract only in his final year. Though they have maintained the stance that Oxlade-Chamberlain won’t be sold this window the risk of losing him for nothing next year could push them to accept offers.

Chelsea were reported to be monitoring the situation for quite some time now and even had a bid rejected. The Blues were confident of landing him for £35million before the window closes next Thursday.

However, it now looks like the Reds have joined the race and are confident of pushing it past Chelsea. One catch here though is the history between the Gunners and the Reds over transfers – namely the one involving Luis Suarez in 2013.

If he goes to Chelsea, Oxlade-Chamberlain could be used as a backup for Victor Moses in the right wing-back role and that wouldn’t do any justice to his potential. At Liverpool, he would get his preferred attacking role, considering the speculation around Divock Origi’s future at the club.
