Liverpool Star Could Leave Anfield In January For As Little As £9million

Jurgen Klopp faces an uphill battle to get Emre Can extend his contract before January. According to reports from Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport, the German midfielder is ready to join Italian Champions Juventus in the winter transfer window.

The Reds have been battling all through the summer to let Juventus know of their desire to keep hold of their midfielder. A bid of £23million on the deadline day was rejected by Liverpool, for a player who is into the final year of his contract.

Can has a new deal on the table from the Reds but is not yet ready to sign it and that has given hope for Juventus to try and snare him. According to the latest reports in Italian media, Can is ready to reject any long-term contract offered by Liverpool and wants to join the Serie A Champions.

Since his contract is set to expire next summer, the midfielder could leave for as little as £9million. The report went on to add that ‘The Old Lady’ will add him only if they get to the knockout stage of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

Juventus’ interest in Can has been an open secret with their transfer chief admitting openly that they were ready to sign him. But the Reds were not willing to leave him.

Can is an important player for Jurgen Klopp and showed his true worth in the Champions League play-off against Hoffenheim and the 4-0 demolition of Arsenal. The 23-year-old finally looks settled at the club under Klopp after an indifferent start.

But, if he continues to reject the advances and not sign the long-term contract then the club would have no option but to cash in on him January. The Italian club feels that a £9million offer would be enough to entice Liverpool as they feel confident that Can wouldn’t extend his contract.

Tough situation for Klopp, right? That is the problem of modern football where players drag the contract extensions to the final year of the deal in hope of finding more suitors. Juventus are notorious for poaching players in the final years of their deals and the German midfielder could just be another one.
