Liverpool To Return With Another Monstrous Bid In January For Failed Summer Signing

One of the more surprising moves from Liverpool in the summer transfer window was the pursuit of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. The 21-year-old was involved in a tug of war between Arsenal and us on the final day of the window but no deal could be done to bring him over to the Premier League.

The Mirror now reports that we would be looking to add the exciting prospect to our squad in the winter transfer window. And given that we negotiated a year in advance to bring in Naby Keita next season, a January deal does not look completely unlikely.

Lemar displayed his prowess in the 4-0 win over Netherlands during a World Cup qualifier as he scored two goals. One of them was a sumptuous volley from the edge of the box.

The Monaco star had reportedly told his club that he only wanted to join us in the summer window and even though his club had agreed on a £92million bid for the attacking midfielder from Arsenal, Lemar did not want to move to the Gunners as he wanted to play for a Champions League club and for Jurgen Klopp.

The added bonus of European competition seems to have helped us as we also brought in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal on deadline day. Lemar would possibly make us the best attacking unit in the Premier League, if not in Europe.

The major fear regarding Lemar moving to Anfield was Coutinho leaving us in the summer to join Barcelona. The Catalans didn’t leave any stone unturned as they kept on sending us bids but we kept on rejecting them and held on to our intent of keeping our Brazilian star for the rest of the season.

Monaco, for their part, have lost a number of players in this window and the latest one was Kylian Mbappe who moved to PSG

. Initially the Ligue1 side were reluctant to sell Lemar but after the bidding war intensified, it seemed like they were willing to let go of the Frenchman.

Should we come back with a bid in the winter, we could snatch him for another record fee but the fear is that a number of other clubs would also be tracking the next rising star of French football.
