Philippe Coutinho’s dream move to Barcelona came up short as Liverpool ensured they kept their word of not selling him in the transfer window. The Brazilian star was a subject of multiple bids from the La Liga giants but we, rather surprisingly, stood firm even on the final day of the transfer window.

The Spanish window was one day longer than the one of the Premier League’s and there were fears that Barcelona would come in with a big amount to prise away our star player. The Metro

even reported that a bid of £136million was not enough to change our minds even though the former Inter Milan man had made it clear that he wanted to move to Barcelona.

And now, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, when Coutinho found out his move was not taking place, the Brazilian was spotted crying.

His emotions certainly came to the forefront as he scored for his national team in a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador. While Coutinho cried, there was no flare up of the “back injury” that had kept him out from all our games at the start of the season.

Jurgen Klopp and his team were constantly asked about the state of the attacking midfielder and the response was constant, with the club claiming that he was having problems with his back. While Coutinho’s move didn’t come to fruition, he could have been a model professional and could have tried to play for our side, given that we had a couple of tough games against Hoffenheim to make it to the Champions League.

Klopp will have a job on his hands as he tries to ease Coutinho back into the side, since the Brazilian has to play regularly in order to make it to the World Cup.

At least there was something for us to celebrate – FSG didn’t buckle under pressure and kept their word of not selling Coutinho, no matter what Barcelona offered.
