‘£60m for PL club, £50m for non PL club’ – Liverpool Fans Vent Their Frustration With Contract Rebel

Liverpool’s hopes of tying Emre Can to a long term contract have taken a hit as The Times has reported that the German’s representatives are demanding to include a release clause in his contract, which the Merseysiders are reluctant to do so.

Emre Can has entered the final year of his contract and the talks about a possible extension have long been doing the rounds. However, the parties are yet to come to an agreement, hence, Liverpool fear they will lose the German for absolutely nothing.

All this has seen him get linked with a move to Italian champions Juventus, and the Turin club, on their part, have already expressed their desire of having him as well.

“Emre Can is an excellent player,” Juventus’ CEO Beppe Marotta was quoted by Express Sport.

“I don’t know if he will renew with Liverpool, but we’ll stay on the sidelines and watch.”

Even Jurgen Klopp had admitted that the club hasn’t made much of a progress in Can’s contract situation, although he remained confident that Can will “come to the right solution” at the end of all this. As quoted by the Independent he said:

“We are still in talks [with Can]. Do I think it is too cool that we didn’t fix it so far? No, to be honest. But it is all ok at the moment and we have to take it like this.

“His mind is not elsewhere. It is an important contract for him at his age. I am 100 per cent sure that we don’t sell the player now in this situation, not a player from the first team line-up. He will play here for the next year that is for sure. All the rest we have to see.”

While signing the German from Leverkusen, Liverpool had inserted a mere £9.75 million release clause in his contract, but are refusing to do the same this time around. Maybe they have learned their lesson well during the entire ‘Coutinho to Barcelona’ saga. The Brazilian, earlier this year, signed a new contract where Liverpool decided not to include any release clause, and hence, gave them all the rights to set an asking price for his sale.

Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to express their opinions on Can’s contract impasse, and here are a few of the best reactions from the social media.
