Liverpool Echo Journalist Admits Klopp Could Sign Summer Target During January Window

Liverpool are hopeful of signing Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window according to Liverpool Echo editor Andy Kelly. The journalist was speaking on YouTube channel Redmen Tv and stated that Michael Edwards wanted to sign all of Jurgen Klopp’s first choice targets but it didn’t come out as expected.

Van Dijk was the only central defender we were seriously linked with but nothing transpired despite our strong interest in signing the player. The Saints reported us of tapping up the player and we even published an apology.

The Dutch defender also went on strike and refused to play for the first-team, however, that ship has now sailed and there are reports suggesting that the club is willing to play him and he is training with the side now.

Kelly does believe that we will return for the player in the winter window and stated

:

“I think we were right to be hopeful. And I think we’re probably still right to be hopeful going forward, as we move towards January.

“I went up to Melwood, just as the window was starting and the vibe from the club was always, and this was the message really they wanted to be seen coming from Michael Edwards [sporting director] as well, that they weren’t going to accept second best.

“Michael Edwards wanted to deliver Jurgen Klopp’s number one choices. That’s not giving away any secrets to anyone because everyone will have seen by the way Liverpool acted all window that they wanted number one choices.”

A Busy Summer For Jurgen Klopp And His Team

It was a fruitful summer for us as we signed Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke, Andy Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. While most of the players solved our issue of a lack of squad depth, the big issue was not bringing in a central defender.

Van Dijk would have been the perfect centre-back for our team and just having the likes of Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip as central defenders could come back to haunt us big time, thanks to the number of games this season.

That could be one reason why we might go for Van Dijk in the winter as the season will take a toll on our players.
